Type Locality and Naming
E. Heilongjiang – Wandashan. Lowest formation of Longwangzhang Gr. Named after Peide Township, Mishan County, Heilongjiang Province, by Ju Ranhong, Zheng Shaolin, Yu Xihan, et al., 1981, Geological Review, 27(5): 391–401. First appeared in a 1976 manuscript by No.108 Heilongjiang Coal Field Geology Team.
Lithology and Thickness
"In general, a volcanic sedimentary formation with some coal intercalations. Lower part of the formation is composed mainly of conglomerates and granule-bearing sandstone. In the middle part, sandstone, mudstone, carbonaceous mudstone and coal (3 mineable seams) with thin-bedded tuff yield abundant plant fossils. Upper part consists of yellow-green andesite, tuff, tuff breccia, siltstone and black mudstone. The mudstone beds occasionally contain some freshwater gastropods. This forrnation is about 520 m in thickness."
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It overlies the base rocks or the Yangshugang Fm unconformably. "This group unconformably overlies the Permian System containing the plant fossil such as Noegerathiopsis, Calamites, Comia, Zamiopteris and others, or lies on Paleozolc granites."
Upper contact
Conformably underlies the Qihulin Fm.
